Interested in Officiating?

Why Officiate?
  • Gain a better understanding of roller derby
  • Additional knowledge of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association rules
  • Stay involved in the community & sport of roller derby
  • See roller derby from a different perspective
  • We have loaner gear you can borrow to get you started (everything except the whistle)

What does RebelTown's Officiating Program look like?
  • First, we teach you how to be a Non-Skating Official (NSO). Each game has a crew of about 10 NSOs running the scoreboard, tracking lineups and penalties, and timing the jam. They are some of the most important people on the track on gameday and are valued volunteers.
  • Then, if you want to, we teach you how to skate! We start with basic skills, how to stop and go, how to fall safely, and we even teach you a little bit about your fancy new equipment and gear. (If you already know how to skate, you still participate in NSO training, and may also join the skating group.)
  • Once you've learned how to safely skate, stop, and fall, we begin teaching you how to on-skates referee. This training includes learning inside or outside track positioning and working through each position during team scrimmages.

If you would like any additional information about officiating, contact us.
